Social Media’d out

I’ve been thinking about writing a white paper on Social Media recently so I started researching a bit to get references and see what’s out there. The huge infoglut that I encountered was overwhelming! Creating “Social Media how-tos” seems to be a much loved activity for many a marketer right now.

Nice slide show. Really interesting how commercial brands are jumping on the social media band wagon. I’ve noticed a significant buzz around twitter lately. But do you think all commercial brands can benefit from this? I think they’re doing it because of the hype and not because it really aligns with their brand. Then again, can’t hurt to try.

Thanks luchi, I think brands can benefit from it yes, as long as they realise that user engagement needs to have a long term focus and not just on a campaign per campaign basis. I believe social media should be at the start of the strategy rather than an afterthought, and engagement needs to be genuine and not just because of the hype like you said. Hype also usually means that something is good, or at the very least interesting; and brands need to represent themselves within that space..
