Opportunity: In an increasingly disrupted and fragmented media landscape, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, Australia’s national broadcaster (think BBC for Australia) embarked on its most ambitious and first ever company-wide digital transformation. This aimed to make sure that the ABC was future proof and set up the foundation to meet future innovation challenges

Activity: Among a number of digital transformation initiatives, I was responsible for the social media and third party platform strategy. This involved a transformation plan of the whole company’s social media usage and requirements into the future, including a thorough audit of platforms, suppliers and infrastructure, content strategy across all categories (e.g. News, TV, Radio, International, Commercial, Regional), partnership agreements with all major social platforms and third parties like Facebook and Google, an enterprise solution project, updated policy and governance, team structure and workflow improvements, talent management and a skunkworks unit for new, innovative projects

Result: $AU1m+ SaaS partnership implemented housing over 300 profiles and servicing 4k+ staff members, 3% uplift in total incremental audience reach (over 12 million Australians), R&D partnerships and first to market products including Facebook Messenger and Apple News distribution
